A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.

ROBERT A. HEINLEIN

Hi, I’m Chad Cranfill.

I’m someone whose life hasn’t proceeded in a straight line. There have been many twists and turns. Can you relate?

Oh, and I can do most of the things Heinlein advised I should be able to do. What about you? Those things I can’t do, I can’t do…yet.

A little bit about me: I’m a classical languages scholar, a technologist and an evolving human being. I was raised Catholic and still have an affinity for some of Catholicism’s beautiful teachings and a sadness at what has happened to the Church in modern times. I also love the teachings of Sufism and A Course In Miracles. I was probably a monk in at least one past life. Go figure.

Lately I’ve been wanting to talk about three things: modern masculinity, how to live a better life, and anything else that interests me at the moment…some of which is alluded to above.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoy it. Feel free to send me an email and ask for a topic to be covered if you don’t see it here. I can’t promise I’ll write about it, but I’ll definitely consider your request.

My wife Angelique and me on our mini-moon in Sedona, Arizona.
